Cepea, October 2, 2024 – Prices of white crystal sugar moved up in the spot market of São Paulo state in September. Increases were linked to the low availability of the product in the domestic market, because of the productivity loss in cane crops in SP (due to the dry weather and high temperatures) and of the high volume of the product allocated to exports this year.
On September 30, the CEPEA/ESALQ Index (Icumsa from 30 to 180) closed at BRL 146.32 per 50-kilo bag, increasing 9.65% against August 30.
Data from Secex indicate that, from January to August this year, Brazil shipped 24.445 million tons of sugar, for an increase of 37.4% compared to the same period last year (17.792 million tons).
WEATHER – Climatempo forecasts dry weather and high temperatures up to mid-October in Brazil, which can affect crops such as sugarcane and coffee.
