Cepea, December 3, 2024 – After seven weeks of price increases, the CEPEA/ESALQ Index for hydrous ethanol moved down in the last week of November in the spot market of São Paulo state. The participation of some mills in the market of some areas in the state increased the supply, pressing down slightly quotations of hydrous ethanol.
Still, considering the full weeks of November, the average of the CEPEA/ESALQ Index for hydrous ethanol closed at BRL 2.6201/liter, moving up 3.91% compared to October. As for anhydrous ethanol (sales in the spot market only), the average closed at BRL 2.8828/liter, for an increase of 2.41% in the same comparison.
Price rises for both types of ethanol are related to the firm demand, especially in December, because of the holidays, and to the nearness of the end of the 2024/25 season in the Central-Southern area in Brazil.
In the partial of the 2024/25 crop (from April to November 2024), the averages of the CEPEA/ESALQ price Indexes for anhydrous and hydrous ethanol are already higher than those verified in the same period of the 2023/24 season (+0.26% and +2.03%, respectively).
Between November 25 and 29, the CEPEA/ESALQ Index for hydrous ethanol closed at BRL 2.6215/liter (net of ICMS and PIS/Cofins), downing only 0.27% compared to that in the previous period. As for anhydrous ethanol, the CEPEA/ESALQ Index closed at BRL 2.8184/liter, net of taxes (PIS/Cofins), for a decrease of 3.34% in relation to that in the week before.
