Cepea, August 6, 2025 – Prices for both anhydrous and hydrous ethanol rose more significantly in the last week of July in São Paulo state. Besides the fact that the production mix is higher for sugar and the smaller ethanol production, sellers were firm, asking for higher quotations.
Between July 28 and August 1st, the CEPEA/ESALQ Index for hydrous ethanol closed at BRL 2.6239/liter (net of ICMS and PIS/Cofins), for an increase of 3.11% compared to that in the previous period. As for the CEPEA/ESALQ Index for anhydrous closed at BRL 2.9996/liter, net of taxes (PIS/Cofins), moving up 2.84% in the same comparison.
Data from Unica released in late July indicate that processing activities, the production of both ethanol and sugar and the total recoverable sugar (ATR) are lower from April 1st to the first fortnight of July this year compared to the same period in 2024.
Due to the production decrease, many sellers asked for higher values. Purchasers, in turn, bought smaller volumes, expecting price drops. This scenario limited trades.
JULY – In July, the average of the monthly CEPEA/ESALQ Index for hydrous ethanol closed at BRL 2.5684/liter, upping only 0.12% compared to June. As for anhydrous ethanol (sales in the spot market + contracts), the average of the monthly Index closed at BRL 2.8825/liter, for a decrease of 0.35% in the same comparison.
