Cepea, June 17, 2025 – While prices for the tahiti lime continued to increase in mid-June, influenced by the limited supply, quotations for ponkan tangerine were moving down, due to the progress of the harvesting and to the low demand, because of the cold weather.
From June 9-12, tahiti lime quotations averaged BRL 39.31 per 27.2-kg box, for an increase of 21.56% compared to the period before. The volume available in the spot market has been reduced since May, when the weather started to limit the pace of the harvesting. Moreover, the international demand has been higher this month, because the proximity of the summer in Europe, major destination of the in natura fruit from Brazil.
It is worth noting that the current tahiti lime season has presented a smaller volume due to the weather in 2024, which resulted in a significant oscillation of the supply during the first semester. Moreover, the industry extended the crushing up to early May, limiting the supply even more in June, a scenario that may continue to be verified in July.
As for ponkan tangerine, the average was at BRL 56.61 per 27.2-kg box from June 9-12, downing 10.06% compared to the period before. Ponkan quotations are influenced by the supply of other fruits, such as banana. The rainfall in the south of Minas Gerais in mid-June (an important ponkan tangerine supplier in this moment) led fruits to fall from the trees in some areas, which also presses down quotations – since it reduces quality.
