Cepea, June 17, 2025 – Cotton prices continued to oscillate slightly in the domestic market in early June. In general, some sellers preferred to sell off 2023/24 batches, while purchasers with low stocks closed only a few trades in the spot market. Players were focused on closing term contracts to receive the product in the coming months or in 2026.
On June 16, the CEPEA/ESALQ Index (payment in 8 days) closed at BRL 4.3643 per pound, downing 1.21% compared to that on May 30.
2024/25 CROPS – Conab indicates that 1.4% of 2024/25 crops had been harvested up to June 7.
EXPORTS – According to data from Secex, Brazil shipped 2.61 million tons from August/24 to the first week of June/25, downing 3% compared to that verified in the season before.
In May, exports amounted 192.2 thousand tons of cotton, for a decrease of 19.6% in relation to April/25 and 16.2% less compared to May/24 – Secex data. In the first week of June, the volume was at 35.48 thousand tons, with a daily average at 7.096 thousand tons, 11.5% down compared to June/24 (8.02 thousand tons).
ICAC – Data released on June 1st by Icac indicate that the global cotton area is expected reach 31.49 million hectares in the 2025/26 season and that the productivity can be at 827 kg/ha. As a result, the world output is estimated at 26.031 million tons, -0.11% compared to that in the crop before. The global consumption, in turn, may hit 25.693 million tons, upping 0.56% against that in the previous season and being 1.3% below the supply.
