Purchasers are unwilling to trade; planting activities start to gain pace

Cepea, May 19, 2025 – Purchasers were away from closing wheat trades at higher values in early May – in April, the average price was the highest since the last quarter of 2024. Moreover, recent devaluations of international quotations reinforce the behavior of purchasers. In this context, wheat prices registered oscillations in the domestic market.

 

Producers, in turn, were focused on planting activities at the beginning of May, which are advancing at a good pace – the production of this year is likely to surpass that verified last year. Data from Seab/Deral indicate that 26% of the area in Paraná state had been planted up to May 6.

 

Secex data indicate that wheat imports totaled 505 thousand tons in April, 22.5% smaller compared to that verified in March/25, but 11.1% above that in April/24. In the accumulated of 2025, imports reached 2.45 million tons. As for exports, the volume was at 120.74 thousand tons in April, the lowest in five months.

 

BYPRODUCTS – According to data from Abitrigo, the volume of wheat processed rose 3% in 2024 against the year before, totaling 13.19 million tons.
